How should bottles be supported during T‑cork insertion?

Bottle support is a core part of T‑corking quality. The press can only seat the closure consistently when the bottle is stable, square to the tool and protected from avoidable glass or decoration damage.

A bottle should be supported so that the neck is square to the press tool, the base cannot slide, the body cannot rock and the contact points do not mark the glass or decoration. The right support may be a simple base nest, adjustable guides, neck location, side support, a custom tool or a combination of these.

Choose support around the first movement seen during trials

If a closure tilts, the cause may not be the press tool. The bottle may be moving first. Watch the bottle base, shoulder, body label, neck and closure top separately during trial pressing. The support method should remove the movement that occurs before the bad result appears.

Questions to answer before final tooling

Does every bottle need custom T‑cork tooling?

Not every bottle needs fully dedicated tooling, but every bottle should be checked for how it sits under the press head. If the format is stable, within the machine range and not cosmetically sensitive, adjustable support may be enough. If it is tall, heavy, tapered, decorated or variable, custom support or a dedicated chuck may be required.

Can support solve bottle breakage?

Better support can reduce avoidable glass stress caused by misalignment or rocking, but it cannot make an unsuitable closure, damaged bottle or incorrect insertion condition safe. Breakage concerns should be tested with representative bottles, closures and production conditions, then reviewed alongside the bottle and closure suppliers where necessary.

How should T‑cork change parts be recorded?

Change parts should be labelled and linked to the bottle, closure, guide setting, press tool and acceptance record they support. A format should not be accepted only because it ran once; the operator should be able to reinstall the correct parts and reproduce the finished result.

Samples needed for support and tooling review

  • Full bottles from the smallest, largest, lightest and most unstable formats.
  • Closures with the final top material, finish and shank.
  • Any labels, sleeves, embossing or decoration that may contact guides.
  • Required finished height, top orientation and visual inspection standard.
